Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Heap Leach Solutions (PDF version)

The Heap Leach Solutions 2015 conference was the third in this international series of conferences organized by InfoMine. It was hosted in Reno, Nevada, USA, September 14-16, 2015.

This series of conferences aims to include contributions from the broad spectrum of disciplines that must work together to develop economically and technically successful heap leach projects - and this volume represents a collection of papers that reflects that.

Topics covered in the 2015 proceedings include heap hydrodynamics, metallurgical testing and evaluation, monitoring and modelling, unsaturated flow, heap leach closure, and new technologies.

Contributing authors represent a diverse range of professions, including representatives of academia, consulting, and operations, and owners from the copper, gold, nickel, and nitrate industries. These authors hail from the USA, Australia, China, India, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Canada, the UK, South Africa, and Turkey. Over a dozen are recognized global leaders in their fields; others are emerging talents with voices that need to be heard.

In the year since the last conference, the industry has been increasingly focused on improving margins in a soft market. This trend is reflected in many of the conference papers, which include optimization, improved instrumentation, better integration of engineering specialties, improved testing and analysis, and innovative closure technologies. For the first time there are multiple papers on injection leaching, authored by major names in the heap leaching business. Clearly this marks injection leaching as an emerged technology. A long-term trend in the industry is to build bigger and more complex facilities in more challenging locations. The 2015 papers also reflect that trend, with excellent discussions on advanced geotechnical methods, the latest developments in seismic response, closure planning, and environmental monitoring.

In total this volume contains 37 peer-reviewed papers.
